Beijing – In a stunning turn of events at the China Open, Daniil Medvedev congratulated Carlos Alcaraz on his victory by jokingly suggesting that he would have to start dressing like Botic van de Zandschulp, following the Spaniard’s 7-5 6-3 win in Beijing. Alcaraz had previously been shocked by van de Zandschulp in the second round of the US Open, but has been in top form since then, securing a spot in the China Open final with another impressive performance against Medvedev.
The 21-year-old Alcaraz has now won his last four encounters with Medvedev, continuing his dominance over the Russian player since their last meeting at the US Open semi-finals in New York last year. In a post-match press conference, Medvedev humorously remarked, “I told Carlos next match I’m going to paint my hair blond and put ‘Botic’ here. Next match I need to try something. Maybe throw him off a little bit. But it’s a joke, of course.”
The rivalry between Alcaraz and Medvedev continues to grow, with Alcaraz proving to be a formidable opponent for the World No. 2. As the two players look ahead to future matches, the tennis world eagerly anticipates more thrilling encounters between these rising stars.
